Iran Seeks Full Ban on Extra IAEA Inspections
WANA (Jun 14) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Parliamentary Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy announced the body has formally called on senior officials to fully implement the “Strategic Action Plan to Lift Sanctions” law, with its main focus being the restriction of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections within the framework of safeguard agreements.
Ebrahim Rezaei made the announcement following an emergency meeting of the Commission, expressing condolences over the recent deaths of Iranian commanders, scientists, and civilians in attacks attributed to the Israeli regime. He said the Commission held special morning and afternoon sessions to assess Israel’s recent acts and to deliberate Iran’s potential responses.
“These meetings analyzed various aspects of the Zionist regime’s attack, Iran’s possible reactions, and the implications of these developments,” Rezaei explained. “The sessions on both days were dedicated to evaluating Iran’s stance toward these atrocities.”
He emphasized that the Commission and the Parliament stand firmly behind the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic. “We are fully committed to supporting our military. Today’s discussions included detailed proposals and conclusions on how best to strengthen this support.”
Restricting IAEA Oversight Within Safeguards
Rezaei said the Commission is drafting a letter to senior Iranian authorities urging full enforcement of the Strategic Action Plan, particularly emphasizing the limitation of IAEA inspections to only what is mandated under safeguards agreements.
“The letter calls for the removal of all non-safeguards cameras and inspection mechanisms,” he stated. “It also demands that non-safeguards inspectors leave the country and that Iran’s reporting to the IAEA be limited strictly to its safeguard obligations. Furthermore, entry of individuals deemed undesirable into nuclear facilities should be barred to protect sensitive nuclear information.”
Drafting New Legislation in Response to Israeli Attacks
Rezaei also revealed that the Commission is preparing new legislation in response to recent Israeli aggression. This bill would obligate the government to increase defense spending in the current and coming years to enhance national security and protect Iran’s territorial integrity.
Pursuit of Israeli Perpetrators Urged
The proposed legislation also calls on Iran’s armed forces to pursue and hold accountable those responsible for Israeli crimes against Iranian citizens, military personnel, and scientists.
Support for Halting U.S. Talks
Rezaei reiterated the Commission’s full support for the Foreign Ministry’s decision to suspend talks with the United States and to withdraw from current diplomatic engagements.
“In a time of open hostility, when the U.S. has clearly aligned itself with our enemies—offering military, financial, intelligence, and logistical support, and even creating defense shields for Israel—talking to Washington is meaningless,” he stated. “Thus, the Commission supports the Foreign Ministry’s stance.”
Parliament’s Commitment to National Defense
In closing, Rezaei stressed that the National Security Commission is closely monitoring the situation and stands alongside Iran’s armed forces in responding to aggression.
“The Parliament and our Commission will provide every necessary support to repel aggressors, confront the enemies of the Iranian people and the Zionist regime, and reinforce the country’s defense capabilities,” he concluded.
