WANA (Sep 04) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has expressed condolences to the government and people of Sudan after devastating floods and landslides claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people in the country’s Darfur region.

In a message, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei extended sympathy to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery for the injured.

Separately, Pirhossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, sent a message to Saleh Abdelmajid Al-Douma, president of the Sudanese Red Crescent, offering solidarity and condolences.

Kolivand said the Iranian Red Crescent stands ready to provide humanitarian assistance, including the deployment of rescue and medical teams if needed.

Kolivand described the disaster as “tragic,” noting that the landslides — triggered by heavy rains — completely buried the village of Tarsin in Jebel Marra, West Darfur.

He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to supporting Sudan during this difficult time and praised the efforts of Sudanese Red Crescent staff and volunteers in responding to the crisis.

According to local reports, the landslides in the mountainous Jebel Marra area have killed over 1,000 people and caused widespread destruction.
