Iran Sends First Shipment of Oral Polio Vaccine to Venezuela
WANA (May 31) – Iran’s Razi Institute for Vaccine and Serum Research has dispatched its first shipment of oral polio vaccine to Venezuela, marking a major milestone in expanding its international market reach.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Razi Institute head Ali Es-haqi described the move as a “turning point” in the institute’s global engagement. He noted that the decision followed a high-level visit from Venezuelan officials, led by the country’s Deputy Minister of Science, and a formal request from Caracas due to a global shortage of injectable polio vaccine (IPV) and complications from sanctions.
The vaccine production and delivery met all technical and international standards, Es-haqi said, emphasizing that cold chain and safety protocols were strictly followed during the direct shipment from Tehran to Caracas.
“This not only meets the urgent need of a friendly nation but also marks the beginning of Razi’s active presence in South American markets,” he stated, expressing hope for future expansion into Latin America, Africa, Eurasia, and neighboring regions.
Es-haqi praised the effort as an example of “health diplomacy” and thanked Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Health, the Agriculture Ministry, Customs, and Razi’s internal departments for their role in the successful delivery.
