Iran States Bahrain Allowed U.S. and Israeli Attacks, Calls for Compensation
WANA (Mar 19) – Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, emphasized in a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council that Bahrain has not respected the principle of good-neighborliness toward Iran.
He stated that the country has permitted the United States and Israel to use its territory to initiate and continue armed attacks against Iran, creating international responsibility and necessitating compensation.
According to the letter, in continuation of previous letters dated 3, 7, 9, and 16 March 2026, and in response to a 16 March 2026 letter from the UK Permanent Mission to the UN addressed to the Security Council President, Iravani stated:
Since the start of the unlawful military aggression against Iran on 28 February 2026, the territory of the Kingdom of Bahrain, along with some other neighboring countries, has been used by aggressors to carry out attacks against Iran.
The illegality of providing territory to aggressors, as an internationally wrongful act, and the resulting international responsibility, have previously been communicated to Bahraini authorities and formally submitted as a Security Council document.
The letter notes that, as a result of Bahrain’s internationally wrongful assistance, aggressors have targeted thousands of civilians and civilian objects in Iran. These actions constitute a clear violation of mutual respect and the principle of good-neighborliness.
Iran stated that, within the framework of exercising its inherent right to self-defense, any military bases or facilities used by aggressors to launch or support armed attacks against Iranian territory may be considered legitimate military targets. Tehran reserves the right to take necessary and proportionate measures to prevent further civilian casualties and damages.
The letter reiterates that Iran has consistently respected the principle of good-neighborliness with the Persian Gulf states. Unfortunately, Bahrain has not observed this principle and has allowed the United States and Israel to use its territory to initiate and continue armed attacks against Iran.
Bahrain’s internationally wrongful actions have created international responsibility and require compensation, including reparations for all material and moral damages inflicted on Iran.
Iravani requested that the letter be distributed as an official document of the UN Security Council.
