Iran Stresses Diplomacy and Firm Defense of Sovereignty
WANA (Feb 12) – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva has stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran, while firmly defending its national sovereignty and security, considers diplomacy the primary tool for safeguarding its national interests and contributing to international peace and stability.
Ali Bahraini made the remarks at a ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the National Day of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Referring to the historical roots of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, he said the revolution reflected the will of a nation seeking dignity, independence, national sovereignty, and the right to self-determination.
The Iranian ambassador in Geneva added that the Islamic Revolution was not merely a change of political order, but a restoration of national ownership over Iran’s destiny to its people. He noted that since then, despite extensive external pressures and challenges, the Islamic Republic of Iran has pursued a path based on independence, social justice, public participation, and the rejection of domination.
Emphasizing Iran’s principled approach to foreign policy, Bahraini stated that while the country resolutely defends its national sovereignty and security, it remains committed to diplomacy as the main instrument for protecting national interests and resolving disputes through peaceful means.
He concluded by underlining that genuine and constructive dialogue can succeed only when it is founded on mutual respect, equality, and the recognition of the legitimate interests of all parties.
