WANA (Jul 09) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that it summoned the British ambassador to Tehran following what it said were repeated allegations by British officials against the Islamic Republic.

 

According to the ministry, Alireza Yousefi, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General for Western Europe, conveyed Iran’s formal protest over the UK government’s approach toward Iran.

 

He also delivered a written diplomatic note rejecting British allegations that Iran had sought to carry out security-related activities in the United Kingdom.

 

Yousefi said the allegations were an attempt to divert attention from what Iran described as Britain’s conduct, including its cooperation with the United States and Israel in regional affairs and its hosting of anti-Iranian groups.

 

The Iranian official urged the UK to stop making accusations against Iran and to review its policies toward Tehran.

 

He also called on Britain to end its support for and hosting of individuals and groups that Iran describes as terrorist or violent, as well as its support for Israel.

 

The Foreign Ministry also said that Britain’s continued hosting of networks that Iran alleges are financed and directed by Israel and promote violence and terrorism is inconsistent with the UK’s international obligations to prevent support for terrorism, and called for such activities to be stopped.
