WANA (Sep 01) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that the shared historical and cultural legacy of Iran and Tajikistan is a proud heritage that must be passed on to future generations.

Speaking on Monday, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Summit, during a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Pezeshkian noted that bilateral interactions in recent years have consistently been positive and expanding, with cooperation progressing across all sectors.

“The joint glorious past of Iran and Tajikistan must be remembered by the new generations of both nations,” Pezeshkian said, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the two culturally and historically connected peoples.

He highlighted that Tehran and Dushanbe have expanded collaboration in transit, trade, tourism, science, and people-to-people exchanges in recent years.

Addressing regional issues, Pezeshkian strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza, saying: “Backed by U.S. support, the Zionist regime is committing the worst atrocities in Gaza and elsewhere in the region. Islamic countries and international organizations must act by all means possible to stop these crimes.”

For his part, President Rahmon reaffirmed Tajikistan’s interest in deepening bilateral relations, particularly in economic, investment, and cultural fields. He also condemned the recent military aggression against Iran by Israel and the United States.

Rahmon praised Iran’s role on the regional and global stage, saying: “Iran has an immense historical, cultural, scientific, and civilizational standing.”
