WANA (Sep 14) – The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization announced the country’s participation in the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), set to begin tomorrow in Vienna.

Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), told state television that the annual conference is one of the UN’s most significant gatherings, with Iran regularly represented.

He said Tehran would use the event to present its views and highlight recent developments in its nuclear industry, which, he argued, have been negatively affected by the IAEA’s “inaction” in recent months.

“This conference is an opportunity to express our perspectives, particularly on circumstances that have unfolded against the UN Charter, the agency’s regulations, and its statute with respect to Iran’s nuclear industry,” Eslami stated.

He added that Iran will raise concerns over the IAEA’s inaction and what he described as the “excessive demands of hostile countries.” According to Eslami, Iran has prepared a draft resolution for submission at the conference and will engage in consultations to include the matter on the agenda.

The AEOI chief further noted that Iran plans to introduce its positions to the international community and hold multilateral meetings with states engaged in nuclear cooperation with Tehran. “We are confident that this participation will allow us to clearly and explicitly present our narrative to the world about the violations of laws and regulations that have occurred under the agency’s inaction,” Eslami concluded.
