WANA (Jun 24) – Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad said Tehran will continue its current course based on understandings reached with the United States regarding sanctions, while also expressing Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation with India.

 

Speaking during a visit to India for the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting, Paknejad highlighted the long-standing historical ties between Iran and India and said he would hold bilateral talks with energy ministers from BRICS member states alongside participating in the main ministerial sessions.

 

He noted that further details on issues discussed during the meetings, including sanctions, could be provided after the conclusion of the event.

 

“Iran has been exempted from sanctions for 60 days, and based on certain understandings we have reached with the American side regarding sanctions, we are continuing along our path,” Paknejad said.

 

The oil minister also stressed Tehran’s willingness to deepen relations with New Delhi, particularly in the economic sphere.

 

“We are ready to expand all aspects of our relations with India, especially in the country’s economic sectors,” he said.

 

The 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting will be held in Gurugram, India, on June 25–26.

 

The gathering will focus on three main priorities: energy security and sustainability, energy access and equity, and technology and innovation.

 

Energy ministers and senior officials from the 11 BRICS member countries are expected to participate in discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation on energy security, sustainability, and innovation.

 

The theme of the 2026 BRICS meeting is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.”
