Iran to Issue Motorcycle Licenses to Women After Government Approval
WANA (Jan 28) – Zahra Behrouz Azar, Deputy for Women and Family Affairs at the Presidency, announced on Wednesday that the final steps are underway to issue motorcycle licenses to women, and the implementation process will begin soon.
Speaking to reporters after a government cabinet meeting, Behrouz Azar said the details of the program will be announced in due course.
She explained that motorcycle travel is seen as a key solution to women’s daily challenges, including traffic congestion and air pollution, but women have faced obstacles in obtaining insurance and driving licenses.
“The coordination for this issue, as I previously mentioned, has been completed,” she said. “Today, these arrangements have officially been finalized. The police will now be able to hold formal training classes and issue motorcycle licenses to women.”
Behrouz Azar added that the police have established the necessary procedures and are ready to start training and licensing. She emphasised that from today, there will be no obstacle to issuing motorcycle licenses to women under the regulation approved by the government.
She noted that the regulation has two parts: the first outlines the training method, requiring female instructors and officers to be used in the training process; the second calls on the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, the National Standards Organization, and other relevant bodies to support the development of electric and standard-compliant motorcycles and ensure proper safety equipment for citizens seeking motorcycle licenses.
