Iran, U.S. Negotiators Exchange Diplomatic Greetings in Muscat
WANA (Feb 07) – Senior negotiators from Iran and the United States exchanged a routine diplomatic greeting during indirect nuclear talks held in Muscat, sources said.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, briefly greeted one another on the sidelines of the indirect negotiations.
Similar customary diplomatic exchanges have taken place during previous rounds of talks, officials noted.
The greeting occurred without the presence of Brad Cooper, the commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Cooper had accompanied Witkoff and Kushner during their meeting with Omani officials, including Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman’s foreign minister.
A new round of indirect Iran–U.S. negotiations was held on Friday, February 6, 2026, in Muscat. Oman’s foreign minister served as the intermediary, conveying messages and viewpoints between the Iranian and American delegations.
At the conclusion of the talks, Araghchi described the negotiations as “a good start.”
According to Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Iranian and U.S. negotiators agreed to continue the dialogue.
