WANA (Jun 18) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian digitally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) ending the war between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States in the early hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026. The agreement entered into force simultaneously with the signature of U.S. President Donald Trump.

 

According to official sources, the text of the memorandum ending what Iran describes as the war imposed by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic was signed shortly after midnight on Thursday by the presidents of both countries. The document was executed electronically, with Masoud Pezeshkian and Donald Trump signing it within a short time of one another.

 

A formal signing ceremony had previously been scheduled to take place in Geneva. However, a White House official told Fox News that the event had been canceled. According to the official, the memorandum became legally effective immediately after being signed by the Iranian and U.S. presidents, making a separate ceremony unnecessary.

At the same time, the White House released a video on X confirming that Donald Trump had signed the final version of the agreement at the Palace of Versailles in France. The footage showed the U.S. president signing the Persian-language version of the document.

 

Speaking to reporters as he departed Versailles following a meeting and dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump was asked about the status of the agreement with Iran. He replied: “It’s signed. We signed it in Versailles. It was just signed.”

 

Fox News, citing a White House official, reported that the U.S. president personally signed the document during the dinner with Macron at the Palace of Versailles. Reuters also reported that the planned signing ceremony in Geneva had been canceled because the agreement had already entered into force.

CNN had earlier reported, citing a U.S. official, that Trump signed the written version of the Iran-U.S. agreement during the official dinner in Versailles.

 

Meanwhile, a senior U.S. administration official stated that both Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance had previously signed the electronic version of the memorandum virtually. The official also claimed that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, had electronically signed the agreement on Iran’s behalf earlier in the week.

 

The signing of the memorandum marks the culmination of an intensive period of negotiations and political consultations between Tehran and Washington. According to U.S. officials, the agreement has now entered into force and paves the way for the formal end of hostilities between the two sides.
