Iran Unveils 23 New Life-Saving Medicines
WANA (Jun 01) – In a significant step toward pharmaceutical self-sufficiency, Iran has launched 23 new life-saving medicines, including seven advanced cancer treatment drugs, at the Barakat Pharmaceutical Industrial Town. The move is expected to reduce the country’s dependence on imported specialty medicines.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Minister of Health and Medical Education Mohammadreza Zafarghandi and Parviz Fattah, head of the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order (EIKO).
Zafarghandi congratulated the unveiling of the new products and described the Barakat complex as a valuable platform for domestic pharmaceutical companies to expand their operations and investments.
“This is a major achievement,” Zafarghandi said during the ceremony. “The facilities in Barakat Pharmaceutical Town have created significant opportunities for developing and producing essential medicines locally.”
Among the 23 newly unveiled products is the Gardisan quadrivalent vaccine, a critical addition for preventing human papillomavirus (HPV) infections. The health minister also announced that seven new Iranian-developed cancer drugs will be entering the market immediately, all produced in advanced manufacturing facilities.
“In addition to cancer treatments, we are witnessing the release of new medications in the fields of cardiology and mental health, marking a broad and impactful advancement in Iran’s healthcare sector,” Zafarghandi added.
The launch reflects Iran’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its domestic pharmaceutical capabilities and ensure access to critical medicines, particularly those that are often expensive or difficult to import.
