Iran Urges Full Implementation of Tehran–Baghdad Security Pact
WANA (Oct 22) – The Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, met with Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji on Wednesday, emphasizing the need for the full implementation of the Tehran–Baghdad security agreement.
During the meeting, held at the General Staff Headquarters of the Armed Forces, a high-ranking Iraqi delegation led by al-Araji discussed bilateral security cooperation with Iranian military officials.
Major General Mousavi highlighted the deep brotherhood between the peoples of Iran and Iraq, describing it as one of the main concerns of the United States.
“The Americans are worried about the solidarity between the two nations, and our enemies are well aware of the blessings that this unity brings,” he said.
Referring to what he called Washington’s “sinister plans” for the occupation of Iraq, Mousavi added: “If the recent aggressions by the Zionist regime and the U.S. against the Islamic Republic had not occurred, perhaps the American intentions to control Iraq’s space would have remained hidden.”
Mousavi stressed that the security agreement between Iran and Iraq must be fully and effectively enforced.
For his part, Qassem al-Araji underscored the deep and special ties between the two nations, saying no one can undermine this relationship.
“During the 12-day war between Iran and Israel, when several military commanders, scientists, and innocent civilians were martyred, the Iranian people stood united alongside their armed forces, government, and the Islamic Republic,” he said. “This unity demonstrated the greatness and resilience of the Iranian nation.”
Al-Araji reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to enhancing military, political, and economic cooperation for greater regional security, emphasizing that both the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) recognize the importance of Iran’s security.
“We are committed to implementing the provisions of the security agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.
He also reiterated that no country will be allowed to use Iraqi territory to threaten the security of neighboring states, particularly Iran.
The Interior Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, who was also present at the meeting, affirmed Erbil’s determination to implement the bilateral security accord — including the disarmament of anti-Iranian armed groups in northern Iraq — and stated that
“The territory of the Kurdistan Region will not be a base for actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
