WANA (Jun 28) – On the 38th anniversary of Saddam Hussein’s chemical attack on the Iranian city of Sardasht, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei called on Germany to accept its legal and moral responsibility by disclosing the truth about its role in Iraq’s chemical weapons program during the Iran-Iraq War.

In a message posted on the social platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Baghaei wrote: “This was not the first time the Iraqi dictator used chemical weapons during his aggressive war against Iran. Throughout the eight-year imposed war, Saddam’s army repeatedly attacked Iranian soldiers and civilians with chemical agents, without ever being held accountable by the international community.”

He emphasized that 38 years after the atrocity, the Iranian people still seek truth and justice regarding those who supplied Saddam’s regime with chemical weapons.

Highlighting the involvement of several Western nations, Kanaani stated, “Germany, the UK, the US, and the Netherlands each played a role in the development of Iraq’s chemical weapons program. The involvement of German companies, in particular, was significant—and the German government was fully aware of this.”

The Iranian spokesman stressed that Germany must come forward and accept its responsibility by revealing the full extent of its involvement.

He concluded: “The Iranian people’s demand for truth and justice will not fade. War crimes and crimes against humanity are not subject to a statute of limitations.”
