Iran Urges IAEA to Investigate U.S. Attack on Nuclear Facilities
WANA (Jun 22) – The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has formally requested the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to investigate what it describes as illegal and aggressive actions by the United States against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
In a letter sent this morning to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, the AEOI expressed strong objection to recent attacks on nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, allegedly carried out by the United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
The AEOI accused the U.S. of violating international law and breaching its commitments under the United Nations Charter and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). According to the organization, these treaties explicitly prohibit not only military attacks but also threats against peaceful nuclear facilities.
The letter calls on the IAEA to end its silence and inaction, and to fulfill its statutory duties by condemning these violations and taking appropriate action in response. It further alleges complicity and inaction on the part of the IAEA Director General, warning that Iran will pursue legal action through relevant international bodies if necessary.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has taken all necessary measures to defend its sovereign rights,” the letter states, adding that Tehran holds both the aggressors and any complicit international actors accountable.
In its statement, the AEOI also appealed to peace-loving nations to uphold international law and support efforts to protect the global non-proliferation regime, urging them to take responsible action in accordance with their obligations under the NPT.
The letter comes amid rising tensions following what Iran describes as coordinated attacks by the United States and Israel on its peaceful nuclear program.
