WANA (Jun 28) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stressed the need to fully implement the first clause of the memorandum of understanding on ending the war, particularly regarding Lebanon.

 

Responding to reporters’ questions about the agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon with U.S. mediation in Washington and the implementation of the first clause of the Iran-U.S. memorandum concerning Lebanon, Baghaei said Iran, in line with its principled policy and the UN Charter and fundamental rules of international law, emphasizes the protection of Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the dignity and security of all Lebanese people.

 

He said Iran considers these principles essential for the durability of any agreement aimed at ending the war and Israel’s occupation of Lebanese territory.

 

Baghaei noted that, for this reason, Iran placed the end of Israel’s war and military operations against Lebanon alongside the end of the war against Iran as one of its primary demands, both in the April 8 ceasefire understanding and in the June 18, 2026 memorandum of understanding ending the war, and has consistently insisted on their implementation.

 

The spokesperson added that the full implementation of the first clause of the memorandum—ending Israel’s military operations against Lebanon and securing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied Lebanese territories—is a necessary condition for achieving a final and lasting agreement that would bring stability to the region.

 

Baghaei also recalled what he described as the United States’ explicit commitment under the first clause of the June 18 memorandum, saying Iran expects Washington to take all necessary measures to compel Israel to halt all military operations and attacks across Lebanon and to establish, without delay, a timetable for the unconditional withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory.
