WANA (Sep 03) – Iran’s representative to the United Nations has sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, calling for the condemnation of U.S. military attacks against Iran and an investigation into what Tehran describes as “grave violations of international humanitarian law” and “war crimes.”

 

Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran’s Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said in the letter that the United States launched a new wave of attacks against several cities in southern Iran on September 1, 2026. He said the attacks included a strike on a residential home in Kuhestak, Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, while a wedding ceremony was taking place there.

 

According to the claims presented in the letter, the strike killed four civilians, including a four-year-old child, and wounded more than 70 others. Iran’s representative stressed that deliberately targeting civilians and children constitutes a violation of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.

 

Darzi also described the Kuhestak strike as part of what he called a broader pattern of attacks by the United States and Israel against civilian targets in Iran. He alleged that since the start of U.S. attacks against Iran on February 28, 2026, civilian sites and infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, airports, residential areas, bridges, roads and railway facilities, have also been targeted.

 

The letter also referred to a strike on an elementary school in Minab on February 28. Iran alleged that more than 168 students, mostly girls between the ages of seven and 12, as well as teachers and school staff, were killed and another 110 people were wounded in the attack.

 

Iran also cited Article 51 of the UN Charter, describing attacks by Iranian armed forces against U.S. military bases in the region as part of its “inherent right of self-defense” and characterizing them as defensive and proportionate responses to U.S. military actions.

 

Darzi further called on the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to condemn U.S. attacks against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and demand their immediate cessation. He also called for an investigation into the Kuhestak strike, the inclusion of alleged violations against civilians in UN reports, holding the United States responsible for the resulting damage, and seeking full compensation for the losses incurred.

 

The Iranian representative concluded by stressing that Tehran remains committed to international law but would take “all necessary and proportionate measures” to defend its people, sovereignty and territorial integrity if military actions against Iran continue.
