WANA (Jun 19) – Following an Israeli strike on Iran’s Arak heavy water facility, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations has called on the UN Security Council to take immediate action to halt all acts of aggression.

In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council on Thursday, June 19, 2025 (local time), Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani stated:

“In continuation of its armed attacks against Iran’s peaceful facilities and sites, the Israeli regime today, June 19, 2025, carried out a direct military strike on the Arak heavy water research reactor—an installation fully under the monitoring and verification regime of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).”

Iravani noted that the most recent IAEA inspection of the Arak facility was conducted on May 14, 2025. He emphasized that this strike marks the third such attack in recent days.

“These repeated acts of aggression,” the letter continued, “constitute a blatant violation of the UN Charter, international law, the IAEA Statute, the resolutions of the IAEA General Conference, as well as UN Security Council Resolutions 2231 (2015) and 487 (1981).”

The Iranian envoy warned that such actions represent an unprecedented and highly dangerous assault on the global nuclear non-proliferation regime and the multilateral safeguards system governed by the IAEA.
