WANA (Aug 23) – Iran has called on the United Nations Security Council and the Secretary-General to strongly and unequivocally condemn recent terrorist attacks carried out by the militant group Jaish al-Adl in southeastern Iran.

In a letter dated 28 July 2025 (A/79/978-S/2025/489), Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, detailed what he described as “heinous terrorist crimes” committed by the group and warned of the serious threat it poses to regional peace and security.

According to Iravani, 22 August, armed militants from Jaish al-Adl ambushed two vehicles carrying Iranian police officers in the Damen district of Iranshahr, Sistan-Baluchestan Province, killing five officers. The group has openly claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Iranian envoy noted that this incident follows another deadly assault on 26 July 2025, when three armed members of Jaish al-Adl staged a coordinated attack on the judiciary building in Zahedan, the provincial capital. That attack left six civilians dead, including a mother and her six-month-old infant, and injured 24 others.

“These horrific crimes, deliberately targeting law enforcement officers, civilians, and even children, constitute flagrant violations of international law, including international humanitarian law,” Iravani wrote. He stressed that Jaish al-Adl continues its operations with links to ISIS-Khorasan and foreign sponsors, benefiting from “impunity and external support.”

Iran urged the Security Council and the Secretary-General to issue the strongest possible condemnation of the attacks, warning that any double standards or selective approaches in addressing terrorism would undermine the Council’s credibility. Iravani also insisted that those who provide support, shelter, or facilitation for terrorist groups must be held fully accountable.

The letter requested that Iran’s communication be circulated as an official document of both the Security Council and the General Assembly under agenda item 110, titled “Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism.”
