WANA (Nov 15) – Iran’s permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a sharp warning after the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Germany submitted a new draft resolution to the Agency’s Board of Governors, stressing that Tehran reserves the right to take “appropriate measures” in response to any “unlawful and unwarranted” action by these countries.

Reza Najafi, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the IAEA, told reporters that the four states, “continuing their unilateral and politically motivated approach,” are seeking to use their numerical advantage in the Board to impose outcomes in Vienna “that they failed to achieve in New York.” He said that forcing the Director General to report on the basis of “expired” UN Security Council resolutions is not only “illegal and unjustified,” but also harmful to ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Najafi added that the move will bring “no change” to the current status of safeguards implementation in Iran, which he attributed to “the criminal aggression of the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran,” along with “the European trio’s complicity and complacency.”

The Iranian representative also called on all members of the Board of Governors to reject what he described as the “destructive unilateralism” of the U.S. and the three European states regarding Iran’s nuclear file, reiterating that Tehran reserves the right to respond to any “unlawful and unjustified” action by them.
