WANA (Mar 27) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs has strongly condemned recent remarks by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi regarding a possible nuclear war against Iran, describing them as biased, irresponsible, and deeply damaging.

Kazem Gharibabadi reacted on Friday to Grossi’s latest comments, saying the IAEA chief has done nothing constructive regarding Iran and has instead repeatedly worsened tensions through harmful public statements.

Grossi had recently said that “no war can destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities, unless it becomes a nuclear war,” while also expressing hope that such a scenario would never happen.

In a post on X, Gharibabadi sharply criticized the statement, questioning whether Grossi was speaking as the head of an international organization or acting as a media commentator. He said the IAEA chief has so far failed to condemn attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, including two recent strikes on the Bushehr nuclear power plant site.

According to the senior Iranian diplomat, instead of warning about the consequences of military attacks on safeguarded nuclear facilities or condemning the use of destructive and illegal means, Grossi appeared to be outlining how Iran’s legitimate and lawful nuclear activities could be destroyed.

Gharibabadi said the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly objects to what it sees as Grossi’s biased and passive remarks and is issuing a serious warning over the implications of such statements.

The reaction comes amid reports of multiple recent attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Iranian sources say the Bushehr nuclear power plant compound was recently hit by two enemy projectiles, while the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan enrichment facility in Natanz was attacked twice.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a recent letter to the UN Secretary-General and members of the Security Council, called on the council to immediately condemn what he described as US and Israeli aggression against Iran’s nuclear facilities. He also urged the council to force the attackers to halt all unlawful strikes and ensure full compensation for the damage caused, including to Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites.
