WANA (Jun 09) – The senior Iranian lawmaker has warned that if Western countries push for the activation of the snapback mechanism against Iran, the Parliament will move to pass legislation mandating the country’s withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, made the remarks ahead of the upcoming session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, where a resolution against Iran may be introduced.

“If the resolution being discussed in the media is adopted, it would confirm the IAEA’s non-technical and politicized approach,” Rezai said in an interview. “This agency has become a political tool in the hands of certain powers, and its inspectors often act as agents for Western intelligence services.”

Rezaei emphasized that uranium enrichment at any level is Iran’s right under international law and the UN Charter, and that no credible report has ever proven Iran’s nuclear program to be non-peaceful.

He accused Western countries of fabricating allegations without evidence in a bid to exert maximum pressure on Iran. “Our options are many, and we will respond decisively if the Board of Governors proceeds with this approach or if Europe attempts to activate the snapback mechanism,” he said.

Rezaei warned that European states are working to build a case for reimposing UN sanctions through the snapback process. “If that happens, we will introduce an urgent bill in Parliament to withdraw from the NPT and end all voluntary cooperation with the IAEA. The West must understand that their alternative to zero enrichment will be zero cooperation.”
