Iran Warns of Retaliation After Bank Targeted in Alleged U.S.–Israeli Strike
WANA (Mar 11) – A spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said that a recent attack on one of the country’s banks by what he described as the “terrorist U.S. army” has opened the way for Iran to target economic centers linked to the United States and Israel in the region.
Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the headquarters, stated that U.S. forces and the “Zionist regime” carried out a strike on a bank in Iran after failing to achieve their military objectives.
According to Zolfaqari, the action was an “illegitimate and unconventional act in war,” adding that it gives Iran justification to target economic centers and banks affiliated with the United States and Israel across the region.
He warned that the United States should expect a “reciprocal and painful response.” He also advised civilians in the region to avoid areas within a one-kilometer radius of banks.
Separately, Bank Sepah confirmed that one of its buildings was struck by a missile attack during the night.
In an official statement, the bank said that all in-person and online services had returned to stable operation late Tuesday night, with employees continuing their duties, when around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday (March 11), one of its buildings was hit by a missile in what it described as an attack by the “U.S.–Zionist regime.”
