Iran Warns Over U.S. Military Activity in Caribbean
WANA (Nov 15) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, issued a warning regarding what he described as dangerous escalations in U.S. military activity in the Caribbean and Latin America, stating that such measures pose a threat to international peace and security. He called for full respect for Venezuela’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Baghaei condemned any threat of the use of force against Venezuela’s “legitimate and elected government,” labeling it a clear violation of international law and a serious breach of the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter — particularly the principles of self-determination and prohibition of the use of force as stated in Article 2, Paragraph 4.
He referred to multiple international reports that describe U.S. attacks on Venezuelan fishing vessels as unlawful and extrajudicial killings, stressing that counter-narcotics operations must not be used as a pretext for violating Venezuela’s sovereignty.
The spokesperson further urged the United Nations and its Secretary-General to fulfill their responsibility in preventing threats to global peace and security and to counter the spread of aggressive unilateralism on the international stage.
