Iran Warns Region Over Use of Territory in Attacks
WANA (Mar 19) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson criticized remarks made by Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister at a joint Arab–Islamic meeting, describing them as “unfair, one-sided, and inconsistent with a responsible approach to regional developments.”
Esmail Baghaei stated that the root cause of the current regional crisis lies in what he described as a war imposed by the United States and Israel, emphasizing that military bases and facilities in some regional countries are being used to plan and support operations against Iran.
He stressed that no party can ignore this reality and reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense under international law. Referring to the UN Charter and General Assembly resolutions 2625 and 3334, Baghaei underlined that no country is permitted to allow its territory or resources to be used for military aggression by third parties against another state.
The spokesperson also pointed to what he called credible evidence indicating the continued use of regional facilities in attacks against Iran, warning that countries hosting such bases bear international responsibility. He added that any state assisting or facilitating such actions could be considered complicit.
Baghaei reiterated Iran’s commitment to international law, including principles of good neighborliness, respect for sovereignty, and territorial integrity, expressing hope that regional countries will act responsibly to prevent their territories from being used in actions against Iran and avoid further divisions in the region.
