Iran Warns Regional States Against Seizing Its Ships
WANA (Oct 07) – Iranian sources have warned that any attempt to block or seize Iranian vessels will be met with a “firm and swift response,” according to a report by Al Mayadeen.
Al Mayadeen quoted Iranian sources as saying that signs have been detected of U.S. preparations to obstruct or interfere with the movement of Iranian commercial ships under the pretext of enforcing sanctions.
According to the report, any such U.S. action “will face an immediate and decisive response.” Iranian sources also told Al Mayadeen that both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy and the Iranian Army’s Navy are fully prepared to neutralize any threat targeting maritime security in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Al Mayadeen added that any move against Iranian commercial or civilian vessels would be met with an immediate reaction from Iran’s naval forces and coastal missile bases along the country’s southern shores.
The report further noted that regional countries have been warned against cooperating with Washington in any attempt to intercept or hinder Iranian ships, stressing that “such cooperation will not go unanswered.”
The warning comes amid reports of U.S. threats to seize Iranian commercial vessels in international waters, particularly following the activation of the snapback mechanism by European states.
The United States is reportedly seeking to exploit the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) to disrupt Iranian oil exports, cut the country’s oil revenues, and block the transfer of sensitive technologies.
Some sources also indicated that Washington has been pressuring regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, to participate in operations to seize Iranian ships. These efforts are said to be part of a U.S. push to form a naval coalition, though they have so far faced resistance.
