WANA (Jul 02) – The Islamic Republic of Iran has issued an official letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and the President of the General Assembly, warning against recent threatening remarks made by Israeli officials toward Iran’s Supreme Leader and describing them as a clear example of state terrorism and a blatant violation of international law.

 

Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated in the letter that the threat made by Israel’s Minister of Defense against Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei constitutes an act that is incompatible with the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law.

 

The letter emphasized that such threats go beyond political rhetoric and statements, describing them instead as part of an organized and deliberate policy of state terrorism targeting senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

Iran’s UN mission also stated that the deliberate targeting of senior officials of a UN member state represents a clear violation of the UN Charter, international human rights law, and humanitarian principles.

 

In another section of the letter, Iran expressed concern over what it described as a “climate of impunity” resulting from the Security Council’s inaction, warning that the continuation of such a trend could normalize state terrorism and create broader threats to international peace and security.

 

The Islamic Republic of Iran further stressed that any hostile action or miscalculation by Israel would be met with a decisive and immediate response, adding that full responsibility for any potential consequences would rest with the Israeli regime.

 

The letter also reiterated Iran’s inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, stating that the country reserves the right to take all necessary and proportionate measures to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, and its people.

 

In conclusion, Iran called on the UN Security Council to explicitly condemn any threats or acts of terrorism against state officials and leaders, ensure accountability for those responsible for planning, supporting, or carrying out such actions, and compel Israel to comply with its international obligations and cease what Iran described as unlawful actions against the country.
