WANA (Jul 08) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a stern statement on Wednesday condemning fresh US military strikes along its southern coastline, warning neighboring Persian Gulf states against aiding American aggression, and declaring that Iranian forces will target the points of origin of any attack.

 

According to the ministry, the US military launched strikes early Wednesday morning, July 8, 2026, hitting several monitoring and surveillance centers on Iran’s southern coast. Tehran characterized the operation as a blatant violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and a breach of Section 1 of the standing ceasefire memorandum of understanding (MOU).

 

The statement came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it carried out strikes in southern Iran in retaliation for alleged Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

 

The Iranian Foreign Ministry countered that Washington has effectively dismantled the ceasefire agreement through repeated violations. It pointed to the strikes, US interference with Iranian arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, ongoing Israeli military actions in Lebanon, and a Tuesday night decision by the US Treasury to revoke Iran’s oil export waivers—which had been guaranteed under Section 10 of the MOU.

 

Warning to Persian Gulf Neighbors and Launch Points

The ministry issued a direct warning to neighboring countries on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf, reminding them of their international legal obligations to prevent their territories or facilities from being used to launch attacks against Iran. The statement emphasized that any cooperation with US military actions would be viewed as complicity in aggression.

 

“The powerful Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to defend the country’s territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and national security against US military aggression in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” the ministry stated, adding that Iranian forces will directly target the origin and launch points of any hostile action.

 

In a separate statement issued Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry further condemned the US Treasury’s decision to cancel the temporary suspension of oil sanctions, warning that Tehran will take any necessary measures to safeguard its national security and economic interests.

 

The US Treasury recently revoked a general license issued less than a month ago that permitted Iranian oil and petrochemical sales, replacing it with a more restrictive directive, General License X1.
