WANA (Apr 17) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon, stating that the halt in hostilities is part of a broader ceasefire understanding between Iran and the United States, mediated by Pakistan.

Esmaeil Baghaei noted that from the outset of its consultations with regional and international parties—including during the Islamabad talks—Iran had consistently emphasized the need for a simultaneous ceasefire across the region, including Lebanon, and had continued to pursue this objective seriously after the negotiations.

He also referred to developments on the ground, praising what he described as the resilience of the Lebanese people in the face of Israeli attacks, while commending Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, particularly over the past 24 hours, which ultimately led to the announcement of a 10-day ceasefire.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed condolences to the families of those killed and voiced solidarity with the Lebanese government and people. He stressed the need for several key steps, including the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, the release of all detainees, the return of displaced persons to their homes, and the reconstruction of damaged areas and infrastructure with support from the international community.

Baghaei concluded by emphasizing that lasting stability in Lebanon and the broader region depends on all parties adhering to their commitments and strengthening diplomatic pathways to prevent renewed tensions.
