WANA (Aug 13) – The second stop of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary’s regional tour took place in Beirut on Wednesday, where Ali Larijani arrived after meetings with Iraqi officials. His arrival in the Lebanese capital was marked by an unusually warm public and official welcome, as groups of Lebanese citizens gathered along the roads leading to Beirut International Airport, waving Iranian and Lebanese flags in greeting.

In remarks upon arrival, Larijani thanked Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, for facilitating the visit, and stressed: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always sought to advance Lebanon’s national interests. Iran and Lebanon both share a deep-rooted civilization, and for centuries, close relations have existed between the two nations. This cultural bond has fostered an emotional attachment, such that when the Lebanese people suffer, the Iranian people feel that pain as well. We will stand by the dear people of Lebanon under all circumstances.”

He added that during his stay in Beirut, he would meet with the President, Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, and a number of political figures and intellectuals. According to Larijani, the historical and cultural ties between the two nations have consistently laid the groundwork for strengthening political and economic cooperation, and the Islamic Republic of Iran supports all efforts that contribute to Lebanon’s stability and progress.

Larijani described his trip as part of a broader regional initiative aimed at “exchanging views with friendly countries in the current sensitive regional context.” The first leg of the tour took place on Monday, August 11, in Baghdad, where he met with Iraqi officials to discuss security developments and bilateral cooperation.

According to the announced schedule, the Iranian security chief will also attend several consultative and cultural meetings in Lebanon, engaging in discussions on the future prospects of Tehran–Beirut cooperation across various fields.
