WANA (Sep 02) – The spokesperson of the Presidium of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, referring to the action of the European Troika in submitting a request for the activation of the snapback mechanism, gave explanations about the closed parliamentary session held on this matter and stressed: “What is important is that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be harmed in this regard, and the enemies must know that the Parliament, the government, the Supreme National Security Council, and all pillars and institutions of the system are united, cohesive, integrated, and of one opinion—that we will definitely take reciprocal action.”

Abbas Goudarzi, spokesperson of the Presidium of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, in a meeting with journalists, explained the details of the closed session of Parliament on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and said:

“Considering the conditions in the country, the region, and the international arena, and given the attention of the Speaker and members of Parliament to play a strategic role in the existing circumstances, a closed session of about an hour and a half was held. The National Security Commission presented a comprehensive report on the process of activating the snapback mechanism and its possible impacts and consequences on the market, the economy, and other areas of the country, and several MPs expressed their viewpoints.”

He added: “The honorable Speaker of Parliament also emphasized that Iran’s position in this matter is strong, and in any reciprocal measure that we determine and decide upon, we will not hesitate. With the central role of the National Security Commission, intensive sessions were scheduled to be held with the participation of representatives of the people in order to adopt strategic and reciprocal decisions.”

The Presidium spokesperson stated: “What matters is that the activation of the snapback mechanism, and ultimately its full implementation, which would lead to the return of six UN resolutions, will have no real or tangible effect on the country’s economy.”

“Around 120 individuals and entities were sanctioned under those six resolutions, while today, more than 2,000 individuals and entities are under U.S. sanctions against our country. The situation will not become worse than this; they are only trying to create a psychological atmosphere in our society, which might lead to an increase in the exchange rate and tension in the market and economy. Officials will certainly play their role in this regard, and the people must also contribute, he added.”

Goudarzi continued: “What is important is that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be harmed in this area. But the enemies must know that Iran’s hand is strong, and that the Parliament, the government, the Supreme National Security Council, and all pillars and institutions of the system are united, cohesive, integrated, and of one opinion—that we will definitely take reciprocal action.”

“In the coming days, Parliament will examine all plans and proposals in a unified manner under the supervision of the National Security Commission. Just as has been the case until now, from here onward as well, all changes and developments, with a long-term and strategic outlook, will be to the benefit of a great Iran, he stated.”

In response to a question about the scenarios raised regarding confronting the activation of the snapback mechanism, he said: “In Parliament, everyone—reformists, principlists, and all the different currents and factions—are of one opinion that our response must be deterrent, reciprocal, and impose a cost on them. Therefore, all plans and proposals presented by individual MPs will definitely be examined in an integrated manner in the scheduled sessions, and the necessary decision will be taken.”
