WANA (May 29) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran said: We will not allow any disruption in Tehran-Riyadh relations.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stated that “the issue of relations with Saudi Arabia has received serious attention due to certain recent developments.”

He added: “I am in contact with our colleagues at the office of the Supreme Leader’s representative (Ba’tha) and the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization to ensure that no disruption or problem arises in the dispatch of Iranian pilgrims.”

Referring to his Tuesday night tweet regarding Iran-Saudi relations and the Hajj issue, he said: “I also tweeted about this matter to emphasize that we are fully serious about Iran-Saudi relations. Our neighborhood policy, which had already been initiated, is a very important strategy, and Saudi Arabia holds a very significant position within this policy.”

Araghchi stressed: “We will continue our brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia and will not allow any disruption in these relations.”

Araghchi’s remarks come following the arrest of Hojjatoleslam Gholamreza Ghasemian, one of the judges of the “Mahfel” program, while performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. According to available information, the release of a video clip criticizing the situation in Saudi Arabia led to his arrest. He is released now and has returned to Iran.
