WANA (May 28) – The President of Iran has once again reaffirmed Tehran’s stance on nuclear energy, stating that the Islamic Republic will not back down from its right to peacefully use nuclear technology.

In an exclusive interview with Oman TV, Masoud Pezeshkian said that if the United States recognizes Iran’s right and understands that the country is not pursuing nuclear weapons, the groundwork for cooperation with various countries will be laid. He stressed that acquiring nuclear weapons has never been, and will never be, Iran’s goal.

Pezeshkian praised Oman’s role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States, saying that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic has consistently emphasized the importance of Muscat’s mediation. He also expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Sultan of Oman and the country’s Foreign Minister in advancing negotiations.

Elsewhere in the interview, the Iranian President discussed Tehran-Muscat bilateral ties, describing political relations between the two countries as being at the highest level. He added that Iran and Oman share closely aligned views on regional issues, especially regarding Palestine.

On economic cooperation, Pezeshkian stated that despite obstacles posed by sanctions, Iran and Oman have agreed to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $10 billion, or even $20 billion.

He also highlighted the importance of the special Iran-Oman relationship in ensuring regional stability, asserting that the Islamic Republic seeks constructive relations with all neighboring countries—relations based on solidarity, fraternity, and Islamic cooperation.

Regarding a possible agreement with the United States, Pezeshkian emphasized adherence to international law as a key condition, noting: “Every country has the right to research and develop uranium enrichment and to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, within the framework of international regulations.”

Addressing accusations from certain regimes against Iran, he said: “Those who assassinate scholars, children, and women accuse Iran of terrorism—while the Islamic Republic seeks peace with all nations, but will stand firmly against oppression.”

In closing, Pezeshkian voiced concern over the situation in Palestine and said the world, especially Islamic countries, must not remain silent in the face of the bombing of civilians, the destruction of hospitals, and the obstruction of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He called on Islamic nations to adopt a united and decisive stance in support of the Palestinian people.
