WANA (Aug 18) – Iran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until all conditions specified in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding are fully implemented, including the lifting of the blockade, the unfreezing of blocked assets, the removal of oil sanctions, and a complete end to military threats and operations, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament announced during an open legislative session.

Recalling the recent conflict, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the hostile and aggressive forces of the US-Israeli alliance launched an attack on Iran due to a critical miscalculation aimed at overthrowing the Islamic Republic. However, he noted that the Iranian people stood united and courageous against this aggression, while the armed forces delivered a decisive response under the direction of the Supreme Leader, forcing global recognition of Iran’s victory.

This alignment of military action and diplomacy transformed the nation’s strength into a legal and political defeat for the United States, formalized in the Islamabad Memorandum.

Ghalibaf highlighted that the enemy accepted the end-of-war agreement out of desperation but quickly defaulted on its commitments to compensate for its heavy political failure. In response, Iran has once again aligned its military power with diplomacy to demand its rights.

He firmly warned that until the United States fulfills all its obligations under the agreement—specifically lifting the blockade, releasing frozen funds, removing oil sanctions, and ending all military threats—the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed.

He added that the temporary ceasefire and relief from the blockade provided a valuable opportunity for Iran to boost its economic resilience and rebuild its defense capabilities, leaving the country fully prepared to inflict an even heavier defeat should any further aggression occur.

The Iranian Speaker further exposed Washington’s new strategy, stating that having failed in both military and diplomatic arenas, American officials are now openly attempting to apply economic pressure, destroy national cohesion, and create domestic dissatisfaction.

He emphasized that cognitive warfare plays a key role in this strategy, warning that any internal decision or conduct that weakens national unity serves the enemy’s narrative. He called on public platforms and national media to foster hope and solidify the unity of the 90-million-strong population around the Supreme Leadership.

Addressing internal affairs, Ghalibaf urged executive officials to focus on resolving economic pressures and supporting the public’s livelihood. Touching upon the sensitive issue of fuel, he noted that reducing gasoline consumption is an unavoidable economic reality, but raising prices is not a calculated solution.

Warning that the enemy seeks to exploit energy adjustments to provoke civil unrest, he stressed that fuel management must be executed through a comprehensive, fair, and persuasive national plan to neutralize foreign plots.

In conclusion, he reaffirmed the parliament’s commitment to defending national sovereignty, punishing aggressors, and upholding the rights of the Iranian people.
