Iran Will Push Draft Resolution Despite U.S. Obstruction
WANA (Sep 14) – Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman and deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said on Sunday that during his trip to Vienna, he will hold consultations with various countries to secure approval of Iran’s draft resolution condemning attacks on nuclear facilities.
Speaking upon arrival to attend the annual General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Kamalvandi referred to what he called aggressive strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran’s nuclear installations.
He said such attacks create a serious problem for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and other international regulations, stressing that “this is not an issue concerning only Iran.”
He noted that Iran’s draft resolution builds on previous resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 487, and IAEA resolutions 533 and 444, which prohibit assaults on nuclear facilities.
The AEOI spokesman said the United States has already obstructed the process by threatening IAEA members and the Agency itself with suspension of U.S. contributions if the resolution is adopted.
“Therefore, we must consult with different countries, and these issues will be addressed in the speech of Mohammad Eslami, head of the AEOI,” he added.
Kamalvandi emphasized that “the world should be based on order, peace, and stability, not bullying and unilateralism.” He reiterated that attacks on nuclear facilities are not only Iran’s concern but a threat to international order and law, expressing hope that all countries will support the draft resolution.
The IAEA General Conference runs from Monday to Friday, with AEOI chief Mohammad Eslami scheduled to deliver a speech and hold multilateral meetings.
According to the reports, Mohammad Eslami has arrived in Vienna to participate in the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
