WANA (May 28) – Iran’s cadet Greco-Roman wrestling team delivered a dominant performance on the opening day of the Asian Championships in Vietnam, winning six gold medals in the first seven weight categories.

 

Armin Esmaeili claimed gold in the 45kg category, Ali Esmaeili topped the 48kg division, Vahid Ashiri won the title at 55kg, Amirreza Tahmasbpour secured gold at 60kg, Amirreza Mehri triumphed in the 92kg class, and Ali Akbar Aco captured the heavyweight 110kg title.

 

In the 45kg division, Armin Esmaeili defeated opponents from Kazakhstan and India before overcoming Taherjan Karimov of Uzbekistan in the final to win the gold medal.

 

Ali Esmaeili, competing at 48kg, advanced to the final with convincing victories over wrestlers from China and Kyrgyzstan, then defeated Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Sharifboev in the gold medal match.

 

At 55kg, Vahid Ashiri secured the championship after beating rivals from India, Jordan, China, and Kyrgyzstan. Amirreza Tahmasbpour also impressed in the 60kg category, dominating his opponents throughout the tournament and sealing the title with a commanding win in the final.

 

Amirreza Mehri captured gold in the 92kg division after victories against wrestlers from India, Kyrgyzstan, and South Korea. In the 110kg class, Ali Akbar Aco completed Iran’s golden run by defeating competitors from Uzbekistan, India, and Kazakhstan.

 

Iran’s only non-medal result came in the 51kg category, where Ahmad Badraldini reached the semifinals before losing to Kazakhstan’s representative. He was later defeated in the bronze medal match by a wrestler from Uzbekistan and finished fifth overall.

 

The remaining three weight categories of the Asian Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships will be held on Friday, with Iranian wrestlers set to compete in the 65kg, 71kg, and 80kg divisions.
