Iran Wins Asian U-17 Handball Championship
WANA (Sep 25) – Iran’s U-17 men’s handball team clinched the Asian championship on Thursday, September 25, after defeating South Korea 28–25 in the tournament final. The victory placed Iran on the top podium, marking a historic continental triumph.
Earlier in the group stage, Iran had also beaten South Korea 31–25. By reaching the semifinals, the team had already secured a spot at the upcoming World Championship in this age category.
This dominant and historic win ends a 19-year drought for Iran’s boys’ handball, which had last lifted an Asian trophy nearly two decades ago.
Iran advanced to the knockout stage as the leader of Group D, after three wins against the Maldives, Syria, and South Korea. In the second round, the team defeated Kuwait, Jordan, and Qatar. A commanding semifinal victory over Bahrain secured their place in the final, where they once again overcame South Korea.
Qatar claimed third place in the competition, defeating Bahrain 33–26.
