Iran Wins First Championship Medal in Speed Skating
WANA (Sep 17) – Iran has earned its first-ever medal in the World Speed Skating Championships, marking a milestone for the sport in the country.
In the junior category final, Iranian skater Amir Mahdi Yahaghi secured the bronze medal, finishing third with a time of 10.102 seconds. He dominated all preliminary rounds — including the quarterfinals and semifinals — to reach the final as the top contender.
The gold and silver medals in the 100-meter event went to skaters from Italy and Belgium, respectively.
With Yahaghi’s bronze, Iran concludes its participation in the 100-meter event. Other Iranian skaters — Milad Salehi (semifinals), Soroush Mehr, and Samimi-Far (quarterfinals) — were eliminated from contention due to narrow margins and misfortune.
