Iran Wins Five Medals at Asian Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships
WANA (Apr 07) – The classification and final rounds of the first five weight categories at the Asian Wrestling Championships were held on Tuesday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Iran secured one gold, three silver, and one bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling.
In the 55kg category, Mohammad Hosseinvand Panahi defeated Ulan Muratbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan 7–1 to win bronze.
In the 63kg category, Erfan Jerkeni lost 7–2 to Aftandil Talybek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan and took silver.
In the 77kg final, Ali Esko lost 3–3 to Akzhol Makhmudov of Kyrgyzstan, a world and Olympic medalist, and earned silver.
In the 87kg category, Gholamreza Farrokhi was defeated 11–4 by Ason Janishov of Kyrgyzstan and took silver.
In the 130kg category, Amin Mirzazadeh defeated Rafael Tstitsoashvili of Uzbekistan 9–0 to win gold, becoming Iran’s only gold medalist in the first five weight classes.
