WANA (Sep 18) – Romina Dashti secured Iran’s first gold medal at the 2025 World Youth Muay Thai Championships, marking a historic achievement for the national team.

 

Dashti, competing in the 16–17 age group in the Wai Kru category, reached the final yesterday and delivered a commanding performance today, scoring 8.53 points to claim the top podium spot. Athletes from Greece and the United Arab Emirates took silver and bronze, respectively.

 

In other matches yesterday, Mohna Alijanzadeh, competing in the 10–11 age group under 36kg, earned a bronze medal after a brave performance against a Dutch opponent in the semifinals.

 

Today’s competitions remain crucial for Iran’s representatives. Zahra Khamarzadeh will face a Vietnamese Muay Thai athlete in the semifinals of the under-40kg category, Abolfazl Soltani will compete in the quarterfinals of the 90+kg weight class against the host nation’s representative, and Saba Heshmati will compete in the Wai Kru 10–11 age group.

 

The championships, featuring more than 1,200 athletes from 100 countries, will continue in Abu Dhabi, UAE, until September 20, 2025.
