WANA (Sep 30) – Iran’s national para athletics team secured its second medal at the World Para Athletics Championships after Elham Salehi won bronze in the women’s shot put event.

 

On the fourth day of the competition, held on Tuesday, Salehi competed in the F54 shot put class. Her throws measured 7.17m, 7.09m, 7.13m, 6.68m, 6.96m, and 7.13m. With her best mark of 7.17m, she finished third in the world rankings and claimed the bronze medal.

 

The gold and silver medals in this event went to athletes from Mexico and Brazil, respectively.

 

Later today, more Iranian athletes will compete: Parastoo Habibi in the club throw, Mehdi Olad and Amirhossein Alipour in the shot put, and Hajar Safarzadeh in the 400m preliminary round.

 

Earlier in the championships, Amanollah Papei won Iran’s first medal, a bronze in the javelin throw, marking the country’s initial success at this year’s World Para Athletics Championships.
