WANA (Oct 05) – Iran’s women’s national volleyball team claimed the Central Asian Championship title after defeating Uzbekistan in the final match, marking the team’s first-ever gold medal in its 62-year history.

 

The tournament, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from October 01 to October 05, concluded on Sunday with Iran’s 3–0 victory over the host nation. Under the guidance of head coach Lee Do-hee, Iran dominated the competition, finishing undefeated with four consecutive wins and not losing a single set throughout the event.

 

In the final, the Iranian players triumphed with set scores of 25–14, 25–14, and 25–19, securing a historic championship for the country.

 

Iran’s starting lineup included Aytak Salamat, Shabnam Alikhani, Reyhaneh Karimi, Negar Hashemi, Fatemeh Khalili, and Elaheh Poursaleh. Other team members were Shaghayegh Hassankhani, Zahra Karimi, Parya Hajatmand, Noora Mohammadi, Fatemeh Manzouri, Nazanin Alizadeh, Zahra Salehi, and Ghazaleh Bostan.

 

Earlier in the preliminary round, Iran had defeated Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, entering the final as the top-ranked team with nine points.

 

Iran’s women’s national volleyball team was founded in 1963. This historic victory symbolizes decades of dedication and perseverance by generations of Iranian female athletes and marks a new chapter for women’s volleyball in the country.
