WANA (Sep 02) – Iran has dispatched a diplomatic delegation to eastern Afghanistan following the recent devastating earthquake.

 

Alireza Bigdeli, Iran’s Ambassador to Kabul, led the delegation to Kunar province to deliver humanitarian aid and assess the needs of affected communities.

 

In addition to Kunar, Bikdeli and his team are expected to visit other earthquake-hit provinces, including Nangarhar.

 

While several countries have expressed readiness to assist Afghanistan, the Iranian delegation is the first to arrive on the ground and deliver aid. Iran had officially announced its readiness to provide assistance in the initial hours following the disaster.

 

Death Toll from Eastern Afghanistan Earthquake Surpasses 1,000

Afghanistan’s Red Crescent Society reported that casualties from the severe earthquake in the east have risen to 1,124 dead and 3,251 injured.

 

Juma Khan Nayel, head of the Red Crescent’s Information Department, stated that more than 8,000 residential homes, primarily in Kunar province, were either partially or completely destroyed.

 

Rescue teams continue to search for and extract people trapped under the rubble, and officials warn that the death toll may rise further.
