WANA (Jul 25) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is in Kazakhstan to attend the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), met and held talks with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, on Friday evening.

 

During the meeting, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on key aspects of bilateral relations, regional and international developments, as well as agenda items of the SCO.

 

Highlighting the strategic partnership level of Tehran-Beijing relations, the foreign ministers of Iran and China emphasized the commitment of both countries’ leadership to further strengthen and deepen cooperation across all fields of mutual interest.

 

They also stressed the full implementation of bilateral agreements and the utilization of the capacities of the SCO and BRICS to expand two-way and multilateral cooperation.

 

Elaborating on the consequences of the clear violation of the war-ending agreement by the United States, Iran’s Foreign Minister condemned the brutal attacks on Iran’s critical infrastructure and the commission of war crimes.

 

He noted that the existing insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and the broader region stems exclusively from US treaty breaches and its disruption of the implementation of Iran’s commitments under Paragraph 5 of the Islamabad Agreement.

 

Reaffirming Iran’s resolve to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity against US military aggression, Araghchi recalled the responsibility of all governments to prevent the progressive weakening of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and the normalization of the use of force in international relations.

 

For his part, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that restoring peace and tranquility in West Asia requires strengthening trust and cooperation among regional nations, reaffirming China’s readiness to provide any assistance in this regard.
