WANA (Jul 19) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Fuad Hussein, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, held a phone conversation this Saturday evening.

 

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on the latest regional developments following the U.S. military aggression against Iran, Washington’s repeated violations of the provisions of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, and the response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to these actions.

 

During the conversation, the Iranian Foreign Minister described the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq as deeply rooted, strategic, and based on deep historical, cultural, and religious ties, as well as the shared interests of the two nations.

 

Araghchi stated that these valuable relations should not be affected by certain personal and unofficial remarks. He emphasized that Iran stresses mutual respect, good neighborliness, and the further development of relations with the government and nation of Iraq.

 

The two sides reviewed the dimensions of current developments and their consequences on the security and stability of the region.

 

They concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing bilateral consultations and coordination to prevent the escalation of tensions and to maintain regional peace and security.
