Iranian and Qatari FMs Meet on the Sidelines of Emergency OIC Summit in Doha
WANA (Sep 14) – The emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers opened on Sunday, September 14, in Doha to discuss Israel’s military attack on Qatar. On the sidelines of the summit, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
During the meeting, Araghchi condemned what he described as Israel’s military aggression against Qatar, stressing the need for coordinated action by the Islamic world to counter Tel Aviv’s belligerence, halt operations in Gaza, and pursue legal accountability for Israeli leaders.
The Qatari foreign minister, for his part, expressed appreciation for Iran’s principled position and emphasized the importance of intensified joint efforts by Islamic and Arab countries to support the Palestinian people and confront Israel’s “expansionist” policies in the region.
In addition to regional developments, the two sides also discussed bilateral relations between Tehran and Doha as well as international issues, including Iran’s nuclear file.
The Doha summit was convened at Qatar’s request and serves as a prelude to the Islamic-Arab leaders’ meeting scheduled for Monday, where Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will represent Tehran.
