Iranian Athlete in South Korea Misconduct Case to Return Soon
WANA (Jun 07) – One member of Iran’s national athletics team who faced allegations of sexual misconduct during the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea is set to return to Iran in the coming days, following the completion of preliminary investigations and the removal of his travel ban.
According to informed sources, the athlete was not present in the hotel room at the time of the police visit and is not currently in custody. He is expected to depart South Korea soon and return to Iran.
As part of the same case, three other members of the Iranian athletics delegation remain in detention. No official statement has yet been issued regarding the legal status or judicial proceedings concerning these individuals.
The incident has generated widespread attention in Iran’s sports and media circles. In response, the Iranian Athletics Federation and the Ministry of Sports have announced that they will take firm action against any individuals found guilty of wrongdoing.
Previously, reports confirmed that one of the detained athletes had attempted suicide while in custody. South Korean media reported that the attempt was unsuccessful and that the athlete is currently in stable condition. Details regarding the circumstances of the suicide attempt have not been disclosed.
