Iranian Company Builds Juice-Pouch Machine, Saving $300,000
WANA (Dec 01) – Specialists at an Iranian knowledge-based company have successfully built a domestic juice-pouch packaging machine, saving the country an estimated $300,000 in foreign currency.
Seyed Farhad Golzan, CEO of the company, explained that the firm was initially formed by six university graduates specializing in machinery design and manufacturing.
“Our work began in 1997 with a focus on industrial equipment, but close engagement with the food industry gradually shifted our direction toward designing and producing packaging machinery,” he said.
Golzan described how the project to develop a juice-pouch maker began: “By reverse-engineering German and French models and integrating the technical features of both—along with several design innovations—we succeeded in producing the first domestic juice-pouch packaging machine.”
This breakthrough became the driving force behind the company’s growth, expanding its workforce to nearly 70 employees within a decade. After the market for this machine matured, the company moved on to producing blow-molding machines, again using reverse-engineering and domestic innovation to create a local version.
According to the CEO, localizing juice-packaging machinery prevents the annual outflow of roughly $300,000 in foreign currency. He added that the company’s competitive pricing—at one-quarter the cost of European machines—combined with specialized mold-manufacturing services, has attracted customers from Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.
Citing the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology, Golzan also noted that the company manufactures ultralight aircraft, including two- and three-seat gyroplanes, which are currently in use on Kish Island.
