Iranian Embassy: Europe’s Double Standards Undermine Its Moral Authority on Iran
WANA (Jan 07) – The Iranian Embassy in Germany has sharply criticized the approach of some European countries, describing their positions on Iran as “interventionist and lacking moral legitimacy,” and warning that repeating failed policies of the past will only deepen mistrust.
The Iranian Embassy in Berlin issued the statement in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), responding to what it called “Europe’s double standards.” The statement said that certain European circles have not only remained silent in the face of Israel’s “continued violations of international law,” including the killing of civilians in Gaza, but have in some cases adopted supportive positions.
The message also referred to recent attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran, describing them as “illegal and aggressive,” and noting that they resulted in the deaths of innocent Iranian citizens. On this basis, the embassy stressed that countries and actors who remain silent about—or support—such actions cannot credibly invoke human rights or moral claims to comment on Iran’s internal affairs.
In closing, the Iranian Embassy addressed European parties by invoking a Persian proverb: “Testing what has already been tested is a mistake”—a phrase commonly used in Iran’s political discourse as a warning against repeating failed policies of the past.
